I went to the doctor last week and had a check-up. I got some bloodwork done, and yesterday he called to tell me that everything was good except that I had a Vitamin D deficiency. It’s apparently fairly normal to be low, but I fell into the “Severely Deficient” category and needed prescription strength Vitamin D pills.
I knew that Vitamin D came from milk and the sun, and while I don’t get a ton of either I figured I wasn’t a complete shut-in, but the blood tells a different story.
So, now I’m taking a single green pill each week and stepping up my food-based vitamin D intake (I’ll stick to soymilk and eggs since I’m no fan of fish, the biggest source).
I’m not excited about the $20 I have to spend on the pills (2 sets of 4 pills at $10 co-pay each? I can’t be trusted with all 8 at once?). I am excited because one of theĀ side effects of the deficiency (beyond Rickets and brittle bones) is “Foggy Brain”. My hope is that with these 8 pills I will suddenly find the clarity and focus that has eluded me the past 33 years. I will finally know exactly what I want to do with my life and be able to pursue it unclouded by the evils of confusion and distraction.
Vitamin D and I are about to do some awesome shit!
