yournewfavorite asked: Do you do anything in particular to your hair to make it look so awesome?

Like anyone, I am always striving to find the haircut that perfectly fits my head. I want to be able to walk into a barber shop and say “Give me the usual” but I don’t know what that is. I hate paying for a haircut when I’m not really sure what I want, so I rarely get it cut.

My hair is naturally thick and dark, but also slowly thinning and I’ve been going gray since I was 14. It tends to stick up a bit from the thickness, but with each passing year my hair is slightly more wispy and white. It’s a slow, slow, creeping change that keeps me ever aware of my mortality and gives each haircut a sense of urgency since soon I may have to make the decision whether I want to shave it all, become a hat guy, or just walk around looking like Neil Hamburger.

In middle-school I did the spiked-part that everyone was into, and then the mullet. In high-school I tried dying it blue and pink and shaving it into various patterns, but in general I don’t want to have to mess with it in the morning. I have a big head and some pretty distinct facial features, so I want a haircut that can draw it all together without making a spectacle of itself.

Basically, I’m cheap, indecisive, and lazy, so I often just let it grow.

Lately, I’ve been getting amateur cuts from my girlfriend who watched korean Youtube haircutting videos to teach herself the art.
