Here’s me playing with Emperor X at Pianos back in May. Chad put an ad on Craigslist to get an orchestra 2 days before the show and it actually sortof worked despite only one 30 minute practice session. You can hear him shouting musical cues between verses.
Chad avoids the stage when he plays so he’s shrouded in darkness and I’m lit up like an xmas tree playing a snare drum. Enjoy!

Been digging the pixel-art that Ben Brown has been making lately in preparation for the release of his fancy 16-bit-style Pixel art drawing program, that I think you can get access to by asking him on twitter (@makepixelart).
This one is particularly appropriate since Chad Matheny (@emperorX) has coincidentally hidden a bunch of purple cassette tapes around the country to promote his upcoming album and you can try to find them by going to westernteleport.com and seeing if there are any near your town.
Each cassette contains the only physical recording of one of 41 new songs and a code to unlock a free download of the song for everyone on earth (with internet access).
More are being added to the map over the next couple days, so check back again if you don’t see anything nearby yet!

The new Emperor X album comes out in a couple of weeks on Bar/None Records! There are pre-order links and amazon is the cheapest way to go.
There are a couple of freely downloadable songs from the album at WesternTeleport.com and that’s where a massive geo-caching project will kick-off on Tuesday so that people around the world can unlock unreleased songs by finding hidden cassette tapes. Details later!

Lately, I’ve been riding NYC subways with people who try to guess the notes of the two-note “doors-closing” chime (older trains have different notes because of electrical drift in the older circuits where new ones are sampled and constant).
This video of someone playing a number of the songs that play in Japanese stations when the train arrives is pretty cool. The train-line is shown at the bottom each time they play a new song. It would make the note guessing game a lot more interesting.
The closest I’ve seen to this in the US is at the Denver Airport tram, where a short country ditty plays for each terminal arrival.
this is actual music they play on the subway platforms. yep. YEP. YUP.
